Dalin pocket thermic is a transparent plastic film employed to activate the asparagus cultivation. It belongs to the Dalin pocket series that includes cutting edge technology plastic films, protected by international patents that bear weight insertion pockets along their sides so that they can be securely fixed on the asparagus ridge. The weight (soil) is inserted through openings along the sides of the film. The grower has the possibility to cover and uncover the ridge according to the cultivating works (harvesting asparagus, weed eradication, refreshing the ridge etc.). Moreover, he can regulate the yield while the cultivation is rendered more efficient. Dalin pocket thermic allows a bigger of the ridge area to be passively heated thanks to its special design. Furthermore, it contains additives that absorb thermic radiation and diffuse the sunlight. It retains the temperature under the plastic film at 2-5 oC higher during the night and minimizes the temperature fluctuation between day and night. Thus the cultivation is protected, earliness is achieved and the quality of asparagus is drastically improved. Harvesting time is considerably decreased and the cultivation follows its natural cycle. It is applied on the field while the cultivation has not yet been activated (December-February in Europe). By uncovering the ridge, the asparagus can be readily harvested. Moreover, the grower can partially control the yield by uncovering or covering the ridge. By the end of March, or early in April Dalin pocket thermic is replaced by a plastic film such as Dalin pocket black & white aiming at improving the quality of asparagus and consequently the grower’s income.
